I’m not sure these were the greatest bikes to own, but to follow on the road, with K&Ns and Micron expansion chambers particularly, they sounded magnificent!

That's as original as it gets. It still has the metal covers over the spark plug caps, they usually went straight in the bin because they were always shorting out. Beautiful bike, exactly the same as mine, but HOW MUCH π³
never been ridden and never will i am afraid with this price ... π
I’ll have half a dozen at that price..π³π³ππ
I remember when the learner law changed , a local bike dealer had a few of these in boxes at the back of the shop , I recall £800 would bag one π€£
That is an expensive ornament just for looking at π³
Price is high but where else could you get another like it π€
If the centre stand feet weren't scratched up on the bottom i probably would have bought it..
Pointless owning an LC and not riding it,especially at that price.
I feel the urge to buy it and immediately chop off the rear mudguard, indicators, just to pass off all the purists.
Could do with a little run around for winter & crappy weather. Just the job that.
Original and the best styling of any bike back then

It doesn't matter how fast it went, what mattered, was how fast it felt. And they felt f#cking fast.
No, mine moved a chunk faster, with a bit of help from Terry Shepherd and a oversized properly race developed TZ top end (courtesy of Tom Herron) .
I had one of the last RD400F's & then a 350 Mars Bar. Both brand new. Top speed just wasn't important, it was all about the acceleration. Still biking 40 years later & nothing since has given me the buzz those 2 did...
I think there'll be higher speed claims than that! After all fizzys did 75..
The LC 350 only managed 108 true speed from memory but you could see 120 on the clocks. Don't ask me how I know, I was only young.
My 500 Kawasaki ran circles around them!
I never wanted to find out, but it is the only bike I got rid of that I wish I had not.
110mph was the max I ever saw, on my standard 1976 RD400.
My Suzuki gt 250 did that , stopping and wheel wobble at that speed another matter lol
How many of us risked all to see the magic ton up .
Gt 500 suzuki might have
Yes after I had it tuned and set up for production racing and geared it for the very long straight at Keevil it did 126mph and still wheelied in third..
Had one. Loved it. Replaced with an RZ350 which was a whole new level of silly!
what the speedo said was academic.. in thos days we were the modern day spitfire pilots but on bikes ..no armour in jackets, helmets that despite what they said... they would crack open on impact with tarmac .. we polished exhaust ports and took whatever we could off the bike , yes it was all about the rush of adrenalin ,we rode bikes by the seat of our pants bring back those days ..no H.S.E about in those days lol
I had a red one, dunno the year make. I do know that when it hit powerband it went nuts. I bought it from an enthusiast and it had been modified. Better shocks and upgrades on the carbies and inlet reeds. It had a deep throaty growl that quickly turned downright operatic. Would wheelstand in any gear up to and including fourth without any encouragement. I quickly learned to be moderate with the wrist. Needless to say I should never have sold it. Probably worth twenty times more than I paid. I regularly got to 150 Klm/Hr with heaps left on the tachometer, and still pulling hard. What an understated weapon of a bike.
well the honda cb 400 / 4 at the same era was tested at around the same speed
I remember how they raved about these 2stokes and Suzuki X7 being able to top over 100mph. I had a Ducati 250 Desmo four stroke single which shocked all my mates two strokes especially around the bends, many of them fell off trying to keep up! Ducatis none desmo 250 four stroke Mach 1 was clocked in road tests in the mid 60s at 106 mph.
. My ram Air 250 done that
The older you get the faster it was!
My RD400 was tuned by Terry Becket. It was a little rocket - fitted Koni shocks and TT100s too. Loved that bike.
Mine was a 78 RD400D in yellow. £620 new from Motorcycle City in Reading. Would do an indicated 105 flat on the tank, but it was more about the acceleration. Loved that bike!
I had a GT250 which the previous owner had messed with. Removed air filter and re-jetted the carbs. Very slow up to about 5 mph then went like hell. Trouble was plugs constantly oiling up and needed to remove and clean or swop them every 100 miles or so.
If you were looking at the stock speedometer at top end you had to subtract 10+ mph.
My yam 200 pissed it back in the good old 80s I burnt out a escort between Blackpool and Preston and he clocked me when we met up
It was a fast Bike off the line Start ed out as a250 and Don Vesco in sol California Made them even Quicker Ran against the in the late 70s it gave the Green meanies a hard time

I went to the 1989 GP at Philip Island and sat in the Siberia stand which overlooked an uphill stretch of track. That photo looks like it could even be in same spot. My most enduring memory of that event 35 years ago was watching Mamola wheelie up that hill for what seemed like every lap. Thanks for such a great photo!
Loved Mamola ….. Trans Atlantic Trophy in the 80’s Oulton Park ….. in the rain, so we’re up on the fence line …… every lap we flipped him off ….British style Two finger salute ….. mostly because he was a yank …. But also he was a great racer !!!! And a bit mouthy…!!??π€ͺπ so …. A few reasons….. (I’m my 20’s at the time) … his third lap …. Waterproofs flapping in the rain …!!! (Practice) small child 6-9 yrs old … standing with his mum in the rain, next to us …. ‘Mum, can I flip Randy Mam-Ola off too ..?!’ …. Mums terse response while sliding herself between our group, and her child …..’No you May Not …!!!’ Sneakily….. we kept giving the thumbs up to the kid the whole day …. He loved it πππ€ͺ ..!!
Saw him race flatrack as a Yong teenager, fearless
Seen him do it in the warm up session at Assen TT in the morning. We cheered him up and every time he went by, he’d wheelie again! Great rider!
Best looking 500 ever
Who could forget him and Robert’s wheeling side by side. Won’t see anything like this in the current Moto GP
Ain't nobody like Randy; and in the rain he was close to unbeatable
Keen pulling monos on them things with your foot nowhere near the brake and the clutch uncovered
There's one at the PI museum. Not sure if it's a replica or the real deal .
One of the best looking set ups ever !!!
Saw him doing this on that bike at Donnington..a real crowd pleaser..
Another great rider
Used to race at Fremont raceway against him in the 1970’s! We were just kidsπ
When the Italians fought in their own way... now let the Japanese not disappoint if true death is the descendants of a warrior!!!
Best helmet ever as well.
was a stunning bike.
He did this in Assen with wooden shoes on.
Probably the best looking bike of that era

Well out of my budget, but very nice. Would have preferred the original colors, but that's just me.
Ghost decals. Did that happened intensionally, or someone laid the candy one step too late.

Who knew the Big O was a motocross fan? (not sure about the footwear though π)Happy Birthday and RIP to Roy Orbison, not just a rider but a racer. Seen here on a CZ ... See MoreSee Less
Thought he was blindπ€
Are those shoes he’s got on ?
As said - Hawkstone Park Shropshire, I was there that day and the day Steve McQueen did a few solo laps (he was an accomplished motorcyclist, represented USA in International Six Day Trials).
He raced a BSA at Thruxton production race poss. 1963 heavy rain all day I heard Roy came off and broke his Leg.
1966 British Championship round at Hawkstone.Roy is wearing Dave Bickers crash helmet.
When did he go blind?
Story goes he broke his ankle giving it big licks! Some boy!
I was never aware that the late great Roy Orbison rode motorcycles π
Hawkstone park Shropshire
Silly sod broke his ankle. Then Sunday night at the London palladium on stage.in plaster.now that is style
He was a huge motorcycle fan, we have many pictures on a variety of bikes.
Learn something everyday
We were led to believe he was blind.
apparently, he rode all night...
Got to have those shades on
With regard to footwear, it’s a case of ‘anything you want……’ Sorry…….π
Only the lonely. π
Yeah i knew he liked bijes but not to race
Yep have fun till life stops you ππ

Prefer the paint scheme of my '73 (which I didn't actually get to register until Jan '74), but I'd make do!
Had a couple of them.
I own that exact bike back in the day I would beat all the triumphs BSA and Harley-Davidson off the line all the time
Its was a very good bike.
Had that bike .. put some lower handlebars and some K81 Dunlops on it .. π
I had this model in the early 1980’s
Terri Gonzales looks like Chico old bike.

Ad - 1980 Kawasaki KH400 - I do like a nice set of pipes don't you π
On eBay here -->> bit.ly/3w2Rcmg ... See MoreSee Less
Those pipes are ugly for sure, when i owned an RD 350 i liked the original pipes and when i owned a RD 350 LC i put on a set of purpose built expansion chambers that worked good and added more power without breaking the sound law too much when in low revs, you can build good pipes without sacrificing looks and power and noise.
Went to Matlock yesterday and RD400, (well it might have been something else) Had some well sounding pipes
Expansion pipes are OK. But the ones with separate silencers are too modern for classic 2 strokes.
Had the KH 400 in green Cracking bike π
Drum brakes still in 1980? And no mag wheels? Bummer
Les silencieux des pots de détente font trop modernes, du moins à mon goût, sinon oui, les échappements sont sympa.
These pipes are nice but for me they look too modern for the bike.
thought i had ridden them all but not the 400, owned an early H2, ridden the H1, S2 and S1

On eBay here -->> bit.ly/3WkrODa ... See MoreSee Less
Didn’t they have forks for rear suspension???
They were almost competitive, then disappeared just as quickly as they came.
There is a FB group: Harley-Davidson Motocross Team Bikes - Photos and Team Information
They were junk and would hardly run some of the worst bikes they ever made
Wasn’t the factory Team bikes Black?
Italian made by Cagiva.
My Harley
Didn't Rex Staten race these for HD?
C’est une Husqvarna !

Just raced with one this past weekend with MOVMX ROCKS!! π
